Working with Cisco Networking equipment in the 'noughties', we built national VPN grids for clients, we secured datacenter racks, we mapped out entire distributed infrastructures. We understand the core principles of networking at the physical level and we have then translated that into our Cloud work.

Unplug it

Many years ago, a very wise consultant said "The only way to truly secure a device, is to unplug it" and he wasn't wrong... if your machine is available on a network, it's vulnerable to attack, if it's available on the internet, it's even more vulnerable. We understand this principle whole heartedly and that's why we take the approach of Security First when building clients networks.

Although the statement was true, it's impractical. If you need to build a web available server, you need a web available server. That doesn't mean, that you just open everything up and not care about it... far from it. You need to plan the network infrastructure properly, understanding where access is needed and where it isn't, ensuring that any access that isn't needed, is blocked at the earliest opportunity in the stack.
